HARRY ROLLINGS, LPC
What kind of therapist do you see yourself as?.
“I am very laid-back and unstructured. I tend to think/focus much more on the underlying theoretical bases for understanding a person, and generally, in doing so, it is not surprising that any individual is where they are, given who they are and what they have been through. And so, nothing is really taboo or off-putting to me; they are just things people do because we are psychological creatures.
I am patient and curious, and pretty even-keel. I am in pretty close alignment with existential psychology, in that problems in living, such as depression, anxieties, uncertainties, anger, and other things, are not problems in and of themselves, but are compasses towards something important to the client and chances for self-exploration and seeking greater purpose in one’s life.
My view of the therapeutic relationship is to be as authentic as possible and to reduce any power differential, kind of like Yalom’s statement of the client and the therapist being “two travelers”.
I’m just a person, more similar to any client than different, and I just happen to have this psychology brain and some good training that I hope we can use to help with whatever they are aiming towards.”
Harry earned his degree in Psychology with a focus in Clinical/Community Mental Health from Western Illinois University.
He has primarily worked in community mental health settings on an outpatient basis, with much of his experience focused on supporting teens and early-to-middle adults presenting with general psychosocial stressors, anxiety, and depression. Harry previously worked at LifeLinks in Mattoon, IL, as an overnight crisis clinician. In this role, he provided crisis intervention through a hotline, responded to multiple emergency departments across the region, and met with children and families directly in their homes.
Since May 2023, Harry has served as an outpatient counselor at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, IL. He brings a strong background in both crisis and outpatient care and integrates a wide range of treatment modalities, including humanistic/existential, CBT, interpersonal, person-centered, and the Gottman Method (level 2 trained).
As a therapist, Harry is known for his authenticity, creativity, and deep compassion. He enjoys working with individuals, couples, and families, and is open to seeing a broad range of clients (ages five and up), with a preference for adolescents through their sixties. He has a particular interest in supporting clients navigating borderline personality disorder, attachment issues, depression, and anxiety.
