Brittany Keaton, AMFT
Brittany was influenced to persue a career in marriage and family counseling after witnessing loved ones go through divorce.
She wanted to be part of a solution in a meaningful way to help individuals, couples and families work through their conflict and break generational patterns. She wanted to help people see that there is support available and giving up isn’t the only answer. Additionally, during her professional journey, she worked with social service agencies where she saw first-hand how family systems can be torn apart.
Brittany believes that our behaviors are impacted by experiences with people and our family systems. She is passionate about helping clients see how they can strengthen relationships in life, uncover conflict, and discover any underlying issues. She enjoys figuring out what’s underneath the iceberg to help clients go deeper to understand the connection or disconnection with relationships in their lives.
Brittany graduated from the Graduate School of Counseling and Human Services at Capella University and is a Licensed Therapist.
The Therapy Approaches Brittany Uses with Clients:
Brittany sees power in empathic listening and thinks it’s one of the essential tools in her approach. She creates a space where there’s ease when opening up. She’s curious and genuinely interested in helping clients reach their therapeutic goals. In her opinion, therapy can help strengthen relationships, build trust, and bring awareness to how things are connected or disconnected. She meets her clients where they are in their therapeutic journey and guides the process with evidence-based strategies. Here are a few of the approaches she uses with her clients:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (commonly known as CBT) is a goal-oriented therapy treatment where the therapist and patient work together and develop a plan to make changes with thinking patterns and/or behaviors that are the reasons behind the life struggles.
Solution-Focused Therapy is short-term and focuses on the solutions rather than the problems. It leverages positive psychology and is very goal-directed and future-focused
Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian Therapy) is an approach rooted in empathy and, in turn, empowers and motivates the clients through the therapeutic process. It is based on the idea that everybody can fulfill their greatest potential.
Intergenerational Family Therapy is where you look into the generational influences that impact the family and individual behavior. You dig in deeper to see how any current challenges may be influenced or affected by previous generations. Intergenerational Family Therapy is used with individuals, couples, and families and was designed by Murray Bowen. It heavily influences “I” statements instead of creating conflict with “you” statements.
Brittany believes that you can't pour from an empty cup. To not feel depleated or stagnant, it's important to pour into yourself.
When it comes to staying mentally healthy, having quality time with her family is important. As a newlywed and a mother of two, home represents her family and her physical sanctuary. She finds joy when her home can reflect her most desired feelings in life – structure, beauty, and bliss. These are crucial for her when pouring into herself.
When things get stressful and she needs to ignite her coping skills, she pauses and takes a moment to herself to regroup and get organized. She finds that routine purging of items in her physical space helps her stay mentally healthy. Sometimes, that means lighting some candles, turning on music, and cleaning and organizing her home.
Greatest Passion
Quality time with family.
