Dear Community,

Here it is, October of 2017, and we are celebrating the fifteen year anniversary of Kevin Elliott Counseling, or Elliott Counseling Group, as it is now known. What began as my solo private practice in 2002 is now a collection of about thirty-five therapists and fifteen administrative staff members. We are now located in our own beautiful office building near downtown Champaign, with an additional campus office on University Avenue, another auxiliary office in Tuscola, and sights on expanding further.

When we celebrated our ten year anniversary, I wondered what to write about to commemorate this adventure and what it has meant to me. As is often the case, my brainstorming notes became a stream-of-consciousness list of ideas. Perusing the list, I realized that this list WAS what I wanted to say about my experience, which has now spanned fifteen years, but is still changing and growing. In fact, I have transitioned into semi-retirement and other life roles (including my favorite, what I call “stay-at-home-grandpa”), with the leadership reins handed over to my wife and partner, Sandra Ahten. However, with all of the growth and changes, I find that this list is still as apparent today as it was five years ago, so I will share it again.

As we celebrate this fifteen year anniversary, here are some of the things that I have learned:

AND FINALLY ...

1. All you really need to do is to be nice and smart.
2. But, if you can't be nice and smart ... try to be nice OR smart.

Thanks to everybody ... friends, family, clients, employees, and colleagues! I think that the next fifteen years are going to be even better. I'm glad we're in this together ... Kevin
