I have been reading Brene Brown's Rising Strong about vulnerability at the same time that I am deep in the midst of dealing with my Mom's Alzheimers. She is so strong. So determined. Has always been such a "go-getter", as she herself would say. Recently, I had to help her understand that she can't manage her own medicine or color her own hair. She just can't.
I know many of you are also empathetic doers. How can you (and I) learn to let others do for us -- acknowledging the truth of our humanity? That we are all connected. That we all need each other. That we came into the world helpless and needing to be cared for, and in that vulnerability came intense love and bonding. And all through our lives, if we learn to ask for help, to admit our helplessness in the face of certain situations we will allow ourselves to be more loved and more bonded.
I don't have the answers. Just asking the question as I ponder it myself and take in the words of Bob Dylan, my generations greatest poet.

What does it mean?
Mindfulness, to me, is to live in the present and observe my own thoughts, feelings, and surroundings without judging them to be good or bad. I am continuing to learn and live in the present rather than dwell on the past or anticipate the future.
