Shayla Parker, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor specializes in couples counseling and also treating adolescents and adults and working with their families to manage and reduce the symptoms of anxiety including: obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), generalized anxiety, specific phobias, anxiety mixed with depression, hoarding of material objects, social anxiety, panic attacks, anxiety during and after pregnancy, post-traumatic stress disorder, relationship anxiety, including anxiety as a result of infidelity.
She obtained experience in anxiety disorders by working in anxiety specific treatment programs at both Linden Oaks Hospital in Naperville, Illinois, as well as Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. In both settings, she worked with patients whose primary diagnoses were anxiety disorders.
Shayla has a true desire to help those suffering with anxiety realize that with commitment and effort they have the power to make anxiety something that is more manageable and less intrusive in their life. Cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure and response prevention and mindfulness techniques are among the main methods she uses to educate patients and their families in order to help manage and reduce anxiety symptoms.
Shayla is also a Certified Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider (CMHIMP), which is essentially helping to navigate clients on their wellness journey by reducing symptoms of a mental health disorder (e.g., anxiety, depression, mood disorders, etc.) using holistic approaches. It takes all tiers of wellness (physical, mental, social, environmental, spiritual, intellectual, occupational) into consideration and teaches strategies centered around eating habits and nutrition, exercise, digestion, sleep, and more.
