Marilee Johnson is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling from Eastern Illinois University.She has experience working with individuals, couples, families and children. She works with all presenting issues including loss, divorce, trauma and abuse and has a particular interest in helping those suffering with depression, anxiety and bi-polar as well as survivors of trauma.
Marilee has been trained in EMDR, which is a therapy for treating trauma and PTSD, as well as any presentation that involves distressing memories. The therapy includes having the patient recall images while receiving one of several types of bilateral sensory input, such as side to side eye movements. It is an effective treatment and is approved treatment by the APA and the WHO.
Marilee describes her approach as eclectic,and chooses a counseling technique that best suites the client's needs: Cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, interpersonal, solution-focused, family systems, and narrative therapy as well as other forms. Her view is that every person has great worth and potential, no matter their experiences, illnesses or current circumstances.
