Sharon Benekohal is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She is a 29 year resident of Champaign-Urbana. Sharon has been a social worker for 15 years and has a dual specialization in mental health and the schools. She is eclectic in her counseling approach and works from a strengths based perspective. She uses a wide range of interventions including, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Family Systems and Art Therapies.
Sharon believe the counseling relation offers support, promotes self-development and guides us through difficult challenges, in a safe, non-judgemental setting. She works with individuals, families, couples, and groups, of all ages with a wide range of mental health issues including: depression, anxiety, bipolar, anger management, dual diagnosis, survivor issues, ADHD, Asperger's social skills, emotional self-regulation, organizational skills, life skills, self-esteem and empowerment, learning disorders, academic underachievement, and developmental disabilities, parenting, divorce, grief & loss, and problematic situations.
She also has conducted groups for children and adolescents on issues such as anxiety, social skills, anger management, emotional self-regulation, organizational skills, divorce, grief, self-esteem and empowerment, and life skills for adolescents with cognitive impairments and those transitioning to the community.
